HOWTO: Feed Component
Version 2007.1beta1 of the eZ Components has been released earlier this week. This release features a beta version of the Feed component. The downside is that there is almost no documentation available about this component, but I'm sure that is just a temporary situation that will be resolved before the final release.
Anyway, programmers are a bit like adventurers: to boldly go where no one has gone before. It would be a shame to keep this adventure for myself, so what follows is a small and simple tutorial that will show you how you can display items from an external feed.
The importance of backward compatibility
Backward compatibility is often abbreviated to just BC, but those two letters stand for an extremely important issue when it comes to software development. The sad thing is that you only realize its importance when backward compatibility is broken. Let's take a look at what happened.
eZ components hit the road
eZ systems has released version 1.0 of the eZ components, an enterprise ready general purpose PHP platform (that sounds fancy). In the two weeks since release candidate 1, they've focused on writing tutorials for each component to make it easier to start using them. But that's not all they've done.
There is of course a complete changelog available for your reading pleasure and of course the whole press release.
And as Tobias Schlitt kindly pointed out, they are already available in Gentoo's Portage tree. Just sync against your preferred mirror and emerge. I didn't encounter any problem so kudos to Sebastian Bergmann for the quick action!
eZ components 1.0 RC1 released
The guys and gals of eZ systems have released the first release candidate of their eZ components. This release tentatively marks the API as frozen. The list of changes since beta 2 is too big so I'll just point you to the changelog.
